MOTHERCARE TAKES SUSTAINABLE STEPS
14/05/2009

Britain’s number one maternity and babywear retailer, Mothercare, is fully committed to protecting its customers as well as the people making its products and the environment.

Helping to manage the impact of the Mothercare Group stores activities on the environment is Severnside Recycling, which has been awarded a three year contract to introduce a recycling service for the nationwide network of Mothercare stores, as well as Early Learning Centres, acquired by the Mothercare Group in April 2007.

Although the vast majority of waste generated by Mothercare is cardboard and plastic, the Group is also committed to bags for residual waste. Emma Conroy, Group Business Development Manager at Mothercare said: “We aim to reduce the amount of waste we currently send to landfill by encouraging recycling and sustainability across all our stores. Severnside is conducting a comprehensive waste management audit with a view to introducing a recycling service to achieve these aims and to support our CSR policy.”

Severnside is not new to working with major retailers, with Arcadia, Next Retail and Tesco already amongst its current client portfolio.

Tim Price, Severnside Communications Manager said: “Despite the current market conditions, our expertise in waste management for the retail sector has resulted in a groundswell of contracts from companies, like Mothercare, who are determined to incorporate environmental considerations into their core business values.” Severnside won the contract from encumbant waste disposal provider, Biffa, in a competitive pitch.
